Sammy on a Board
Pull toys were very popular items among pioneer children and traditional North American folk. Pull or push toys usually were constructed to represent animals that children knew to be familiar. This crude version of the Sammy line of toys looks similar to the one shown in the photo except that he is simply standing on a plain block of wood with four unpainted slab wheels with no fancy spokes. Although he looks rather crude that is exactly the way many of these pull toys looked, even as recent as the 1950's.
